12 Days
Adventurous experiences are the heart of this safari. Away from
civilization and the everyday life, you will experience vast landscapes and an
unspoiled nature within Kaokoland, in ways, rarely found elsewhere on planet
earth. Meet the proud Himba and let an experienced tour guide accompany you
through challenging maneuverable terrain, whereby your own driving skills are
often being tried. Sheer adventure awaits you!
The car rental company welcomes you at the Airport and will transfer you to the capital, where you take over the rental vehicle. After approximately 1,5 hours’ drive you will reach Farm Kaliombo where you are already being expected and can relax after the long flight. Enjoy the African bush atmosphere and tranquility under shady acacia trees. A nature drive will be undertaken on the farm grounds in the late afternoon to enjoy some game viewing and a beautiful sunset. Here you will also spend the first day with an introduction to your upcoming adventurous journey. Dinner, Bed & Breakfast – Kaliombo Safari Camp
Your journey will take you to the famous Etosha National Park via Otjiwarongo and Outjo, before reaching the Okaukuejo Rest Camp in the afternoon. You can enjoy your first game drive in the Park in the afternoon until sunset. Okaukuejo offers an illuminated and usually busy waterhole inside the camp that allows great game viewing even during the night. Dinner, Bed & Breakfast – Okaukuejo Rest Camp
On this day you travel further into the western side of the Park, en route you can view more game at various waterholes. Perched on the top of a little hill Dolomite Camp offers sublime views to complement the luxuriously designed camp. The camp is unfenced, allowing animals to roam freely between the tents and communal area. Dinner, Bed & Breakfast – Dolomite Camp
You exit the National Park through the Galton Gate and drive up north to Ruacana. Your domicile is the beautiful and shady campsite of the Kunene River Lodge, where you will pitch your first camp. The lodge is situated on the bank of the Kunene River which forms the north-western border between Angola and Namibia. If time permits, an afternoon boat trip on the river can be booked optionally. Camping with Full Board – Kunene River Lodge
Today you drive along the Kunene River to your next destination. Nestled under the waving Makalani Palms and situated 200 meters upstream from the spectacular Epupa Falls, lies the cozy Omarunga Lodge. This area will leave a special impression and you shall closely encounter people from the legendary Himba tribe and their traditional lifestyle. Camping with Full Board – Omarunga Lodge
After a leisurely morning at the river the route takes you in southern direction via Okangwati to Opuwo, where more supplies can be bought for the upcoming camping nights. Continue in the direction of Kaoko Otavi, where for the first time, at a suitable spot, you will be camping in the wild. Here you can enjoy the stars and the tranquility of nature in its full splendor. Camping with Full Board – Kaoko Otavi Region
The journey continues in the dry river bed of the Hoarusib River and past the Giraffe Mountains towards Orupembe. Alternative, depending on the road conditions, your guide might consider driving via the famous but tough Van Zyl’s Pass. 25km from Orupembe is a self-catering camp with beautiful chalets, each with its own private deck extending from the hill and into the beyond. Etambura, Namibia’s first Himba co-owned camp is situated in Orupembe Conservancy on top of one of the highest hills above the holy plains of Onjuva, where livestock and springbok peacefully graze together. “Etambura” means the place from where you can see the rain. Self-Catering Accommodation with Full Board – Etambura Camp
The route takes you further south via the „Red Drum” to the dry riverbed of the Hoarusib. On this journey it is difficult not to feel a certain sense of achievement and good fortune to be able to visit such a beautiful and fragile environment. Your night’s camp is again in the open arms of an untamed wilderness. Camping with Full Board – Purros
The route will take you through the Hoarusib River, which is known as the “father of all rivers”, and later into the Hoanib River, continuously on the lookout for desert elephants that roam here freely and have adapted to this arid environment. Another camping night in the wild, in a branch of the Hoanib, will bring the adventurous day to an end. Camping with Full Board – Ombonde
Throughout the morning you will remain in the Ombonde, always on the lookout for wildlife, before the route continues westwards until you reach Palmwag, where you will pitch camp for the last time. Camping with Full Board – Palmwag Lodge Campsite
In the morning you will visit the famous rock paintings at Twyfelfontein, Namibia's first World Heritage Site. Afterwards you continue via Uis to the Erongo Mountains. The many rock paintings in the Erongo region are evidence that the San lived here. Omandumba is a personal guest lodge with farm atmosphere. The name Omandumba is derived from one of the many Namibian languages, meaning “the place where the bitter bush grows”. On an excursion you can experience the oldest tribe of Namibia in their natural habitat and the life of the San (also called Bushmen). It is here that your guide will bid you farewell. Dinner, Bed & Breakfast – Omandumba Bush Cam
It is time to return to Windhoek via the small artists town of Omaruru and Okahandja. Here you can stop at the popular Wood Craft market to buy some souvenirs. In Windhoek you will return the rented vehicle and an employee of the car hire company will take you back to the airport in time for your flight back home.
